How to Clean the Syringe Filter

May 11,2021
The syringe filter is a fast, convenient and reliable filter tool that is routinely used in the laboratory. It has a beautiful appearance, light weight and high cleanliness, and does not need to change the membrane and cleaning strainer, which helps to save complicated and time-consuming preparation work. Therefore, it has been widely applied in the laboratory, mainly used for sample prefiltration, clarification and removal of particles, liquid and gas sterilization filtration. The syringe filter is an ideal method for filtering small samples of HPLC and GC.

Domestic syringe filters are divided into disposable or multiple-use, organic or water-based, with specifications of Φ13 or Φ25, and are used for sample filtration in liquid or gas phase analysis. Filter materials include nylon, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), mixed cellulose (MCE), cellulose acetate (CA), glass fiber, polypropylene (PP) ), and Polyethersulfone (PES).

How to clean the syringe filter:
First use a needle tube to repeatedly suck distilled water, then ultrasound for about 20 minutes, and then soak in distilled water for more than 5 hours, take it out, and oven-dry it at about 40 degrees. Don't oven-dry the washer, just let it dry naturally.

The cleaning and disinfection of the syringe filter after use is the same as other high-pressure plastic products (polypropylene, polyester, polyvinylidene chloride, etc.), but polyethylene cannot be high-pressured.
1. Rinse with running water ten times, and the oven temperature is usually set to 56 degrees when drying because EDAT is often dissolved;
2. Soak overnight in 1% hydrochloric acid (at least 6 hours);
3. Rinse with running water ten times, then wash with distilled water twice, and then the filter membrane can be installed under high pressure or dried for later use.

The cap of the syringe filter should not be soaked in acid, but should be soaked in NaOH for 6-12 hours, or boiled for 20 minutes. Before packaging, install two filter membranes. When installing the filter membrane, pay attention to the light side up (concave upward), and then loosen the screw slightly, put it in an aluminum box, and sterilize it in a pressure cooker 15 pounds for 30 minutes, and then oven-dry it for later use. Note that the screw should be tightened immediately when it is taken out of the clean bench for use.
