Difference of Fluorescence Spectrophotometer and UV Spectrophotometer

Sep 23,2024

Spectrophotometer is an instrument widely used in science, medicine, chemical industry and other fields. Its main function is to perform optical analysis on the composition and concentration of various substance solutions. Common ones include ultraviolet spectrophotometer, visible spectrophotometer, fluorescence spectrophotometer, ultra-micro spectrophotometer, etc.

Fluorescence spectrophotometer measures the fluorescence emitted by a sample, while UV spectrophotometer measures the absorption of a sample. Fluorescence spectrophotometers use a beam of light (excitation light) to pass through the sample solution and then detect the fluorescence emitted by the sample. The fluorescence wavelength is always longer than the excitation wavelength. To prevent the excitation light from interfering with the detection, the detector is perpendicular to the light source. UV spectrophotometers split the light source into two beams, one beam passes through the sample solution and the other beam passes through the blank contrast, and then compare the strength of the two beams to determine how much light is absorbed by the sample.

The spectrophotometer is a scientific instrument that decomposes complex light into spectral lines. It is mainly composed of a light source, a monochromator, a sample chamber, a detector, a signal processor, and a display and storage system.
